Hi All,
Welcome to my brand new website to coincide with my brand new CD, Girl in the Band. Thanks to Tom Diamond for his gorgeous web design, Kate Romero for her photography, and Adam Kenger for making the whole site work.
New Videos! Ralph Modica at Phase 1 Digital in NYC shot and edited three amazing videos: Girl in the Band, Laura Vecchione Promo Video, and my latest historic-election-inspired, Tell Them About the Dream featuring piano virtuoso Jonathan Batiste and his band. Please be sure to watch all three videos on my Media Page and share with friends on YouTube and Facebook.
You are invited to "become a fan" of Laura Vecchione by visiting my Facebook artist page. It's an easy way to share my music with friends, and invite them to shows. And as always, thanks for your support!
2009 News:
Tell Them About the Dream: Historic Election-Inspired Single and Video
I am overwhelmed by how many of you wrote in to tell me how much the song and video moved you – thank you! I was inspired to write the song by the story of Gospel singer Mahalia Jackson calling out to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "Tell them about the dream, Martin!" forty-five years to the day that Obama gave his DNC acceptance speech. The song embodies the unifying spirit of the Obama presidency and articulates the historic thread that led to this moment.
Tell Them About the Dream received this honorable mention from WACBIZ (http://www.wacbiz.com/)
"WACBIZ was proud to be a part of the screening process of the Dream On! project with Maya Armstrong. Laura Vecchione was one of a few artists, out of hundreds of submissions, that immediately caught our attention. Suzanne Hilleary learned of the history Laura had with her partner Michael Visceglia (Suzanne Vega) and welcomed her to WACBIZ. The video and song "Tell Them About The Dream" has been forwarded to many; The Womans Democratic National Committee, Essence Magazine, Wild Foundation, NAACP and others in consideration of Obama's Inauguration. From HBO to CNN, the song appears on the WACBIZ Dream ON! MLK to Obama playlist. We welcome Laura as one of our talented artists joining Sinead O'Connor to Joe Jackson and musicians from Bowie's Band to Petty's Band, we believe Laura is is every bit as talented!" - http://www.wacbiz.com/Laura-Vecchione/artist/331
Available for Download: Tell Them About the Dream (with full making-of-story) is now available for digital download at CDBaby.

Dream On! MLK Compilation: I am honored to be included among the many wonderful artists contributing to the Dream On! compilation and charitable website honoring the work and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (www.thedreamcontinued.org). The CD compilation and full website are set for release by Martin Luther King Day, January 18, 2009. If you are in LA don't miss many of the Dream On! Artists play at the CD Release Party at Molly Malone's on January 15, 2009 8PM.
Girl in the Band: Thank you to all the musicians, singers, and engineers in Boston, Nashville, and Los Angeles for giving so much of yourselves to the music.
More TV Placement: Girl in the Band just received its third placement, Laura's fourth total song placement to date, on TNT's edgy, adult drama Saving Grace, starring Academy-Award-Winner Holly Hunter. "Better Run" joins "Fly Home Flag Boy", "Magnolia", and "Jane" (from Deeper Waters) in Grace's favorite police watering hole.
Charitable Collaboration: All CDBaby and digital sale proceeds of Laura's original "Fly Home Flag Boy," and the Mardi Gras Indian traditional, "Indian Red," continue to go to Sweet Home New Orleans (http://www.sweethomeneworleans.org), working to restore the artistic fabric of New Orleans by assisting traditional New Orleans musicians and Mardi Gras Indians with housing, legal assistance, and healthcare.
Finally, I want to thank you, because if you are taking the time to read this, or come to a show, or tell a friend about my music and encourage them to sign my mailing list, then you are the biggest part of what is making it possible for me to make music. And thank you always for your support and good wishes as the music spreads. I am so excited to share it with you!
Mark Prentice, my friend and co-producer always warns, "you want to eat the sausage, you don't want to see it being made." However, I ignored his advice this once to invite you into the recording process of Girl in the Band. You can check out my bi-weekly photo blogs of behind the scenes recordings on Flickr. Be sure to click on the "sets" because they are better organized!!
I welcome your email questions and requests and hope you can make a live show. As always, thanks for
stopping by!
Peace & Love,
Laura
